Confirmation/OWLConfirmation Classes combine 8th and 9th grades, and alternate in rotation every other year with the "Our Whole Lives Sexuality and Our Faith" program. Confirmation 2008 began in January, and met for 13 thirteen sessions, including one all-day Saturday retreat at church. A field trip to serve dinner at Simpson United Methodist Church Shelter for homeless persons educated students to the real face of homelessness in the Twin Cities, where 90% of residents at Simpson are employed at jobs during the day. A second field trip was to St.Mary's Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Minneapolis, to celebrate Orthodox Easter, this allowed students to experience the wide variety of worship styles within our own Christian tradition. Confirmation Sunday was on May 11 in 2008. On that day, we celebrated the baptism of one of our students at the 8:30am service, who was then confirmed in faith, at the 10:30am Rite of Confirmation Service. The next Confirmation Class will convene in 2010. ****The O.W.L. program was a success this year. It began on Oct 11, 2009 and ran through April 18, 2010 with 5 youth participating. The class was taught by Sharon F., Judy S., Brad P., and Ronda H.. |
